2020 was supposed to be 2012 Bid Adieu’s year. But instead, the world saw a long silence since the group’s debut project. As the follow up to their 2019 debut project, the band’s latest LP strikes a delicate balance between the organic and the electronic, the danceable and the downtempo. 2012 Bid Adieu is essentially an R&B band, but major elements of their style are skewed here enough that, while the music seems vaguely familiar, it doesn’t quite sound like anyone else. All through their record, the members each have a chance to add their own style, resulting in a set of songs that are unique and come across like the ideal soundtrack to a night on the town in some exotic sci-fi city.

Message-wise it is clear that during quarantine, these songs were means of expression for the group - a way to feel normal. Less alone. More accepting. In creating this project, Jordan Clark, lead vocalist, states: “The band never stopped making music, but it felt like we would need more distance and more precision to communicate what’s been going on if we let things settle a bit. In the age of social distancing, we’d have to completely overwrite our traditional means of collaborative producing, and shift to working digitally, not in a shared space. This was a departure for us, but allowed for a deeper dive into our experience. reCAPTCHA is a 4-sided EP look at navigating a fucked up world. Each side is a new perspective from a different member.
